Organizational Rules and Rule Histories

Abstract:
Organizational rule histories are a novel subject of study which allows us to uncover deep principles of organizational and perhaps social change. This article reviews the concept of the rule history and discusses recent research which has explored how organizational rules evolve over time. One of the main perspectives emerging from this research is that rules are supra-individual and semi-autonomous components of social order that are impacted by both their own history and environmental impulses.
