Reverse hindsight bias
People who are exposed to a very surprising or unexpected event may react by expressing an
I did not expect this to happen response. They attribute the surprise of the
unexpected event to their inability to have foreseen an outcome such as the one obtained
and recall predictions opposite to their judgement of the event after its occurrence.
In other words, the attempt to explain an unexpected event leads to an exaggerated
adjustment in a direction opposite to the hindsight bias.
